 In the early 50s when the July 23 revolution erupted and the new regime started to settle down, an American official came to Egypt and met Gamal Abdel Nasser leader of the revolution. Later, that American official went to Israel to meet with the Zionist leaders and thought they would go happy when he tells them that Nasser told him he had no intention to wage a war against Israel for he was totally busy building his country and developing it. Unlike what the American official thought, Zionist leaders – as I can remember they were Sharett and Ben-Gurion – replied that this is the worst news they ever heard of or expected about Egypt for they believe Egypt being busy building and developing its renaissance constitutes the real danger to Israel. This incident is authenticated and was previously published tens if not hundreds of times. The Israeli air-raid on Gaza took place after this and history went by as we all know and some of us even witnessed those incidents until the time we were totally devoted to fight against Israel and postponing most – if not all – of our development plans. Moreover, we let go some of the most important strategic projects that we went far in… details in this regard are many and exhausting to tell!

This introduction is not meant to call for retrogression and dwelling in one’s own affairs and let go of Egypt’s responsibilities toward its geographical circumference and direct national security where Palestine and Levant countries represent Egypt’s direct north-eastern gate, and where the racist colonial Zionist state is the biggest and real danger, not ignoring that religion-proclaimed terrorism groups, as I do believe, are also a real threat to our nation. This introduction is meant to highlight the necessity of discussing our country’s stance on the domestic level on all aspects; political, economic, social, cultural, and all that has to do with Egypt, and whether that domestic situation have a direct impact on our foreign policy since the latter is absolutely inseparable of the former.

It’s not a sin for a nation to go through a period of decline having such deterioration affecting its role and commitments on all aspects. However, ignoring such situation and giving it a blind eye is the real sin. Also tackling the matter irresponsibly is another sin like those claiming-to-be experts who dub and chant hot slogans and lead massing protests that is capable of wasting all energy and angry reactions feeling they did what they ought to do. It’s also Ok to add some spices by demanding to lower our diplomatic representation, expelling an ambassador, or even freezing relations while cooperation in intelligence and economic affairs is actively running under the table like the case between Turkey and Qatar. Another irresponsible attitude to tackle the situation is to add fuel to the already-enflamed conflict, call for the military solution and engage in war fights while the undeclared target is to escape the domestic crisis by waging an outside open war despite all reality evidences affirming we don’t have the complete or near-complete capacity to go into a real war where victory is guaranteed. Meanwhile, we would have managed to evade the sharp criticism of those writing in newspapers and talking on TV who don’t want our beloved country to rise out of the current mired situation, in addition to others who cannot distinguish between committing suicide and going into a fight based on solid basis.

In a country inflicted with poverty, ignorance, diseases like Hepatitis and Kidney failure, and terrorism until it was on the verge of a civil war… in the absence of all cohesion factors and presence of all sectarian, doctrine, and social separating factors… in a country begging for help and aid while its billionaires deny any effort to provide assistance… in a country where half its population are under poverty line and illiteracy exceeds 40 percent while cultural and religion ignorance is dominating… in a country worn out by corruption and organized looting while its army and police are busy maintaining domestic security… in such a country, some accuse Egypt of retreat and taking sides with the Zionist enemy.

In addition, having such a fight with the Zionist enemy practically and logically requires a strong bulwark-acting Arab nations starting from frontline countries like Egypt, Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon and extending to include supporting Arab countries providing backup like Iraq, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and the rest of the Arab nations… where are all these countries right now? Where is Syria that was once present in both war and peace… where is Iraq, the strong supporting country rich in water, oil, financial resources, and people… where……? The list goes on.

Stop chanting empty slogans and let us take a thorough look at our reality; domestically, regionally, and internationally as well. Let us go through the long-term challenge that is based on strong solid foundations. That long-term challenge is about building a cohesive and strong social and economic infrastructure by our own hands… about possessing an applicable research-based scientific infrastructure that is not less than that of the enemy. Let us all unite on a single target; that is Egypt’s glory, strength and its pivotal role toward its circumference like Zionists do starting from atheists to rabbis… from doves – in case they existed – to hawks when they work to make Israel the dominant and most powerful country in the region exceeding all its neighboring countries. The real long-term challenge is to bring our factories that were sold back… to restore our economic institutions that were liquidated and make it stronger… to have a proper educational process running in our universities and research centers… to have normal healthy social relations prevailing in our society. Only at that time, we will be able to put an end to the conflict where fighting action is inseparable of the resisting one.

Let those forces eligible to fight on Palestine fight and let glory and eternity be to martyrs. Meantime, let us keep resisting by rebuilding our Egypt to be an independent free nation that is self-sustained and generous to its neighbors. Let us all work hard so that Zionists hear the worst news they hate most; that Egypt is gaining its strength and glory back.

أسوأ خبر يسمعه الصهاينة

عند مطلع الخمسينيات، وبعد قيام ثورة يوليو واستقرارها، وصل مسئول أمريكى والتقى قائد الثورة جمال عبدالناصر، ثم ذهب إلى الدولة العبرية ليلتقى القيادة الصهيونية، وظن أنه سيهديهم مفاجأة سارة بقوله إنه التقى عبدالناصر وأنه أخبره أنه لا ينوى شن حرب على إسرائيل لأنه مشغول تماما ببناء بلده وتنميته. وعلى عكس ما توقع المسئول الأمريكى رد القادة الصهاينة وأظنهم - على ما أتذكر - شاريت وبن جوريون، إن هذا هو أسوأ خبر سمعوه أو توقعوه، لأن انشغال مصر ببناء نفسها هو الخطر الحقيقى على إسرائيل. هذا الكلام موثق وسبق نشره عشرات إن لم يكن مئات المرات.

بعدها كانت الغارة الصهيونية على غزة، وتوالت الأحداث على النحو الذى عرفناه وعاشه بعضنا معظم حياته، إلى أن وصلنا فى مرحلة من المراحل إلى التفرغ للصراع ضد الدولة العبرية والوجود الصهيونى وتأجيل معظم - إن لم يكن كل - خطط التنمية، بل وتم التخلى عن بعض أهم المشروعات الإستراتيجية التى كنا قد قطعنا فيها شوطا أو أشواطا، والتفاصيل فى ذلك كثيرة ومضنية!

تلك مقدمة لن تصب فى اتجاه يذهب إلى الانكفاء وإلى التقوقع وإلى التنصل من مسؤوليات مصر فى محيطها وتجاه أمنها الوطنى المباشر، الذى تمثل فلسطين فيه وبلاد الشام البوابة الشمالية الشرقية المباشرة، ويمثل الوجود الصهيونى الاستعمارى الاستيطانى العنصرى الخطر الحقيقى والأكبر، الذى لا يمكن وضعه فى سياق واحد مع ما أظنه - بل وأعتقده - خطرا قويا تمثله جماعات الإرهاب الدينى الذى يزعم الانطلاق من مرجعية إسلامية.

إنما تصب المقدمة فى حتمية مناقشة وضع بلادنا على الصعيد الداخلي، وعلى الجوانب كافة السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية والثقافية، وفى كل أنحاء مصر، وما إذا كان هذا الوضع ينعكس مباشرة على سياستنا الخارجية، باعتبار الأخيرة لا تنفصل بتاتا عن أوضاع الداخل، التى هى فى النهاية تمثل ما لدينا من أوراق قوة نستطيع أن نلعب بها فى مضمار العلاقات الدولية والأوضاع الإقليمية!

وليس عيبا ولا نقيصة فى حق الأوطان حضارة وتاريخا أن تعيش دورة اضمحلال وتردٍ على جميع الأصعدة وتنعكس ملامحها على دور الوطن وعلى التزاماته، وإنما العيب كل العيب والنقيصة التى ما بعدها نقائص هى تجاهل هذا الوضع والتعمية عليه، والانطلاق إلى وضع من اثنين: إما وضع ما يسمى «طق الحنك» و«فنجرة البق» يعنى فرقعة الشعارات الملتهبة ورص العبارات الساخنة وتسيير المظاهرات الحاشدة التى يركبها الهتيفة محترفو اختراع العبارات التى تمتص كل طاقات الغضب وإمكانات الفعل، ثم نعتبر أنفسنا قد أدينا واجبنا، ولا بأس من قليل من البهارات؛ بتخفيض تمثيل دبلوماسى أو طرد سفير أو حتى تجميد علاقات، فيما القنوات الأخرى التحتية الاستخباراتية والاقتصادية والتعاون فى المجالات غير المعلنة يبقى قائما، أو كما يقولون يبقى «على ودنه» دون توقف كما هو حال تركيا وقطر! أما الوضع الثانى فهو الاندفاع نحو تصعيد الصراع وتفجير الموقف وفتح الجبهات العسكرية والدخول فى معارك حربية، ويكون الهدف غير المعلن هو الهروب من أزمات الداخل بتفجير معركة حربية خارجية، رغم أن كل المعطيات تقول وتؤكد أننا لا نملك المقومات الكاملة ولا شبه الكاملة لحرب حقيقية نضمن فيها أى احتمال للانتصار، ثم نأكل العلقة ونكون قد هربنا ولو لفترة من أزمات الداخل، ونكون أيضا قد اتقينا شر ألسنة وصحافة وتليفزيونات المزايدين الذين لا يريدون للمحروسة أن تخرج بحال من الأحوال مما هى فيه، أو الآخرين الذين لا يميزون بين الانتحار وبين القتال على أسس قوية تكفل الحيلولة دون ضياع الوطن!

فى وطن هلكه التهاب الكبد الوبائى والفشل الكلوى، وطحنه الفقر والجهل والمرض، ويفتك به الإرهاب حتى كاد الوضع يصل إلى ما يشبه الحرب الأهلية، وفى غياب التماسك على كل المستويات ووجود تفتيت وتفكيك دينى وطائفى ومذهبى وجهوى واجتماعى..

وفى وطن يمد يده شمالا وشرقا ليجد القوت لأولاده، الذين يضن بعض أصحاب المليارات منهم بأى جهد جذرى لإنقاذه من ذل السؤال.

وفى وطن يقترب نصف سكانه من خطر الفقر، وتتجاوز نسبة الأمية الهجائية فيه حوالى 40 بالمائة من سكانه، فيما الأمية الدينية والثقافية تكاد تكون سمة الغالبية، وفى وطن استنزفه الفساد والإفساد والنهب المنظم، وتنشغل أذرعه القوية من جيش وشرطة بالأمن الداخلى..

فى وطن يعيش هذا كله يأتى من يتهم الإرادة المصرية بالتقاعس والانهزام والتواطؤ مع العدو الصهيوني!

ثم إن عملية المواجهة ضد العدو الصهيونى تستلزم عمليا وعلميا وجود حائط صد عربى قوى يبدأ من دول الطوق المواجهة وهى مصر وسوريا والأردن ولبنان، ويمتد إلى دول المساندة فى القوس الثانى وهى العراق وليبيا والسعودية والسودان، ثم بقية الدول العربية، فأين نحن الآن من كل ذلك؟

أين سوريا التى لا حرب بدونها ولا سلام فى غيابها.. وأين العراق الظهير القوى الغنى بمياهه ونفطه وموارده المالية وشعبه وأين.. وأين؟!

كفى «طق حنك وفنجرة بق» وكفى تعاميا عن حقيقة أوضاعنا الداخلية والإقليمية والأوضاع الدولية، وتعالوا نخوض الصراع طويل المدى على أسس حقيقية قوية راسخة!

والصراع طويل المدى هو أن نمتلك بعقولنا وسواعدنا وإرادتنا بنية اقتصادية واجتماعية قوية ومتماسكة، ونمتلك بنية علمية وبحثية وتطبيقية لا تقل بحال عما عند عدونا، ونمتلك درجة تماسك حول هدف واحد هو مجد مصر وقوتها ومنعتها ودورها الحتمى فى محيطها، كما يتماسك الصهاينة من مختلف الفئات والاتجاهات، يعنى من الملحدين إلى الحاخامات، ومن الحمائم - بفرض وجودهم - إلى الصقور حول هدف وحيد هو وجود إسرائيل وبقاؤها واستمرارها متفوقة على كل جيرانها.

الصراع طويل المدى هو أن تعود مصانعنا التى بيعت وصروحنا الاقتصادية التى صفيت إلى ما هو أقوى مما كانت عليه، وأن يستقيم أمر جامعاتنا ومراكزنا البحثية وأمر علاقاتنا الاجتماعية، وعندها نكون بصدد حسم الصراع الذى لا يجب أن ينفصل فيه الفعل المقاتل عن الفعل المقاوم.

فلتقاتل قوى القتال المهيأة لذلك على أرض فلسطين، وليكن المجد والخلود للشهداء، وفى الوقت نفسه فلنستمر فى الفعل المقاوم بأن نعيد بناء مصر لتكون وطنا حرا أبيا مستقلا يعتمد على ذاته ويعطى من حوله، ولنعمل على أن يصل خبر بناء مصر وقوتها وتماسكها إلى الصهاينة ليكون أسوأ خبر تستقبله آذانهم.

Life-time friend… attempt to stop Tsunami

I’m not about to discuss the artistic aspects of the TV series “Life-time friend”… however, I’d like to discuss the general side including the relation between the drama work and writing history… also, the timing chosen to air the dramatic work or publishing a book… third, I’d like to discuss the effect of this drama works on the collective consciousness and what results from this…

The second side I’d like to discuss here is the one related to how much those producing such dramatic works are keen on respecting the already-known history facts and how diligent they are to know the truth about what was not a known fact or event but it has to do with the circumstances surrounding the event… meaning the objective circumstances as to timing or parties involved…

First, I’d like to affirm that no one is above criticism except prophets… and even they, some believes are exempted from judgment in what is related to the revelation issue… otherwise, they are humans subject to all universal laws like everyone else…

Also, no one possesses indulgences of patriotism or objectivity to grant or deprive whoever he wants… however, it’s a matter of a historical scientific material that has its sources and references… and it’s about the ability to tackle this material as per the established rules of discipline in the branch of Historical Criticism…

Also, it’s about rules and scientific tools known by Arts academies and institutions and which are taught to students in phases of pre- and post-graduate studies… and if there was some kind of pioneering work that rebels over those rules and tools and provides an unprecedented new work… it comes after committing to the axioms of history and sciences of screenwriting and directing…

Hereupon, violating or overstepping these axioms on both sides; history or artistic aspects, reveals without much thinking that this dramatic work has an undeclared goal away from telling the historical truth or respecting objectivity…

In the general side, history does not recognize imagination but drama does… drama uses imagination to complete some aspects that serve the historical events and add more meaning to them without touching what is already established and documented of those events… otherwise, it would be forging facts… and of course you know that sometimes fake coin is more shining that an authentic one…

The drama series “Life-time friend” came in a very pivotal timing of transition in Egypt and the whole region from a state into another new one… a new state raising slogans of bread, freedom, social equality and independence of national will… like the case of Al-Karnak movie, that also came in a very pivotal timing when Egypt was being prepared to be ruled by those who looted it in the time of the unbridled Infitah… those who paved the way for Mubarak long time ago before he came to power…

In that movie, the trick was about magnifying and exaggerating the issue of oppressing freedoms, torturing and other things in the pre-Sadat era… and saying: “but now – meaning the Sadat-era – look, it’s the era of institutions, freedoms, security, safety, and also faith”… they coined that motto; “the state of science and faith” so that they can verify looting, stealing, monopolizing and collaborating with the USA and end Egypt’s Arab and regional role… etc.

In my opinion, that series aims at breaking the huge tsunami wave of nostalgia to Nasser… the idea, principles and goals the man personified… also, it aims at distorting the essence of his stances and not the stances themselves by focusing – falsely – on the man’s negativities and depicting him as the one who misjudges circumstances and who always takes the decision alone and as a result, commits destructive mistakes…

Also, the series did not pay attention to the background and circumstances that surrounded many decisions and stances… for example, nationalization… as the Syrian capitalism deliberately worked on destructing the economy by smuggling their money and taking loans unjustifiably from Syrian banks without paying back so that fall down can take place… and so nationalization was the only way to stop this conspiracy…

There is a very important document that reveals all the circumstances related to the experiment of the Egyptian-Syrian union; it’s the document of the tripartite union negotiations among Egypt, Syria and Iraq… this document included the wide open discussions that took place between Nasser and representatives of both the Syrian and Iraqi Ba’ath parties…

I believe it’s important to republish this document and reread it in a historical criticizing manner as per the established scientific disciplines… and not according to the wishes of those who want to cut our current historical course seeking bread, freedom, social equality and independence of national will… those who want to put an end to this nostalgia that raises up high posters of a patriotic national Arab-national liberal symbol like Nasser… they want to stop this normal healthy human nostalgia.

صديق العمر.. محاولة ساذجة لوقف التسونامى

 

لقطة من مسلسل صديق العمر

لست بصدد مناقشة ما يتصل بمسلسل صديق العمر من جوانب فنية، وما أنا بصدده هو الجانب العام ومنه العلاقة بين العمل الدرامى وكتابة التاريخ، ومنه أيضا توقيت إذاعة عمل ما أو إصدار كتاب ما، ومنه ثالثا انعكاس العمل على الوعى الجمعى ونتائج ذلك.. أما الجانب الثانى فهو الخاص بمدى احترام القائمين على النص لوقائع التاريخ المعروفة ومدى حرصهم على تقصى أبعاد ما لم يكن حدثا بحد ذاته، ولكنه ظروف محيطة بالحدث.. أى الظرف الموضوعى زمانا وأطرافا.

فى البداية ليس هناك شخص مقدس بحد ذاته إلا الأنبياء، وحتى هم فإن البعض يذهب إلى أن معصوميتهم وقداستهم مقترنة بما يتصل بالوحى فقط، وعدا ذلك فهم بشر يخضعون لنواميس الكون السارية على الجميع.

وفى البداية أيضا ليس لأحد الحق فى ادعاء الإمساك بأختام الوطنية ودمغات الموضوعية، يختم بهذه ويدمغ بتلك من يشاء ويحرم من يشاء.. وإنما الأمر أمر مادة تاريخية لها مصادرها ومراجعها، وأمر قدرة على التعامل مع هذه المادة وفق القواعد المنهجية المستقرة فى علم النقد التاريخي.. الأمر أيضا أمر قواعد وأدوات علمية تعرفها أكاديميات ومعاهد الفنون وتعلمها لتلاميذها فى مرحلتى البكالوريوس وما فوقها من دراسات عليا للماجستير والدكتوراه.. وإذا كان ثمة إبداع لرائد يتمرد على تلك القواعد والأدوات ويقدم جديدا غير مسبوق، فإن ذلك يأتى بعد احترام البديهيات فى مجال علم التاريخ وعلوم السيناريو والإخراج! ولذلك وعليه فإن خرق هذه البديهيات أو تجاوزها على الناحيتين، يفصح وحده دونما جهد كبير عن أن للعمل هدفا آخر غير هدف إجلاء الحقيقة وتعظيم الموضوعية.

فى الجانب العام فإن التاريخ لا يعرف الخيال والدراما تعرفه، وبه تستكمل جوانب يراها القائم عليها تخدم الأحداث التاريخية وتضفى عليها أبعادا أخرى دون أن تمس ما هو ثابت موثق من تلك الأحداث، وإلا كان الإبداع فى تكثيف رؤية الحقيقة التاريخية مساويا للفجر فى تزييفها.. وأحيانا تبدو العملة المزيفة أكثر لمعانا عن الأخرى الحقيقية.

ولقد جاء المسلسل فى توقيت مفصلى للانتقال فى مصر والمنطقة من حالة إلى حالة جديدة، تهدف العيش والحرية والعدالة الاجتماعية واستقلال الإرادة الوطنية.. مثلما جاء فيلم الكرنك فى مفصل زمنى كانت مصر فيه تتهيأ لأن يمسك بتلابيب مصيرها الأفاكون من «بتوع» الانفتاح السداح مداح والذين نهبوها وهبروها، وكانوا هم الأصل فيما وصلت إليه مصر قبل تولى حسنى مبارك بزمان!.. وكانت اللعبة فى جوهرها تقوم على التضخيم والتجسيد والمبالغة فى قضية كبت الحريات والتعذيب وخلافه فى الحقبة ما قبل السادات، أما الآن ـ أيام السادات ـ فهى المؤسسات والحريات والأمن والأمان وبالمرة الإيمان.. «دولة العلم والإيمان» حتى يمكن تمرير النهب والسلب والاحتكار والسرقة والتواطؤ مع الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وإنهاء دور مصر العربى والإقليمى إلى آخره!

وفى ظنى فإن المستهدف من المسلسل هو محاولة كسر الموجة العاتية «تسونامي» الحنين غير المرضى لعبدالناصر الفكرة والمبدأ والأهداف، وأيضا مضمون المواقف وليس المواقف مكررة، وذلك بالتركيز ـ زورا ـ على سلبيات الرجل وخاصة تصويره بأنه لا يحسن تقدير الظروف، ومن ثم ينفرد بالقرار ويخطئ فيه خطأ مدمرا!

ثم إن المسلسل لم يلتفت أبدا إلى خلفيات وظروف كثير من القرارات والمواقف، وهنا أسوق مثالا «التأميمات» إذ عمدت الرأسمالية السورية إلى تخريب الاقتصاد بتهريب أموالها والاقتراض الجائر من البنوك السورية دون سداد ليحدث الانهيار، وكان التأميم هو السبيل الوحيد لوقف هذه المؤامرة.

إن هناك وثيقة شديدة الأهمية توضح كافة الظروف التى أحاطت بتجربة الوحدة المصرية السورية، هى وثيقة مباحثات الوحدة الثلاثية بين مصر وبين سوريا والعراق، وفيها نقاشات واسعة وصريحة بين الرئيس عبدالناصر وبين ممثلى البعث السورى ومعهم البعث العراقي.. وأعتقد أن من المهم إعادة نشر هذه الوثيقة وقراءتها قراءة تاريخية نقدية، وفق الأسس العلمية المستقرة وليس وفق هوى من يريد قطع سياق تاريخى حالي، يسعى للعيش والحرية والعدالة الاجتماعية، واستقلال الإرادة الوطنية ويرفع صور رمز وطنى وقومى وتحرري، تعبيرا عن حنين إنسانى سوى وليس حنينا مرضيا يضر ولا ينفع.

Assault on Gaza… unanswered questions

I’ve always been one of those who consecrated their efforts for supporting the Palestinian cause for two reasons… first, because Palestine and all Levant countries, in terms of natural geography and politics, are situated in the heart of our Egyptian national security domain, as long specified by our ancient Egyptian ancestors as the region stretching from north where reversed water resources of the two rivers of Tigris and Euphrates are… to south where the African horn is… second, because the Zionist or Hebrew state represents the most outrageous symbol of racist settlement colonization which we have to resist and put an end to whatever time it takes…

And so, since I’ve always been and still am until now, my relation – and I guess there are many others like me – to the Palestinian cause ranged from pursuing fighting action to exerting my earnest endeavors – which has never stopped but sometimes was afflicted with apathy – in the resisting action… difference between the two actions is clear and differs in degree… however, I believe that the resisting action is broader and more comprehensive than the fighting one that is may be limited to holding arms and using them…

Before continuing, I’d like to answer a question that may occur to some; that is: isn’t there a third dimension of the Palestinian cause; that is the religious one… because Palestine has Al-Aqsa mosque; the first Qibla and second sacred place in Islam where Prophet Muhammed ascended to the sky in his night journey known as Mi’raj… it also includes the birthplace of Jesus, his footprints and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre… and I here add that it also includes the grave of Prophet Ibrahim and his offspring from Isaac?

My answer is that I believe that the religious dimension, as such described, can provide justification for all conflict parties… however, the national and liberation dimensions leave no alibi for Zionists to claim anything… in this regard, there are a lot of details that are not related to our topic now…

I also want to say that away from fulfilling my mandatory military service in my country Egypt from 1973 to 1976, I also hurried to fight the Zionists on field battle during their invasion to Lebanon in 1982… also, I was behind equipping the plane that carried volunteers to fight from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates to Damascus… I was aboard the plane and submitted myself to the Syrian officials in Adra camp; those who were responsible of welcoming and directing volunteers to the war front… in this, there has been a long tragic story which I wrote some of its chapters before…

My generation first developed awareness of the Palestinian right when we started knowing about liberation against colonization and stances adopted by July 23 revolution and Nasser… we grew up adopting the revolutionary and political speech placing Palestine and freeing all occupied land in the heart of it, long time since we were young students in the students and youth movement at the beginning of the seventies…

I was lucky enough to meet leaders of the Palestinian Liberation Organization… atop of them Yasser Arafat, Khalil el-Wazir, Salah Khalaf, Hayel Abdel-Hamid and Farouk Qaddoumi… I met them many times, especially in Beirut… and there have been some serious contentions between us where I was – of course – the first to start…

One of them was that situation that took place in the Algerian Capital when Yasser Arafat welcomed the Egyptian guests who participated in the 17^th tournament of the Palestinian National Council… the Egyptian delegation encompassed more than 200 figures… I stood in line between Mr. Amin Howeidi and Mr. Muhammed Fayek where Arafat was supposed to shake hands with… Arafat shake hands with the first and then he ignored me to shake hands with the second when Mr. Amin Howeidi – may he rest in peace – stopped him immediately to ask him if he hasn’t seen me… and then Arafat answered angrily that he doesn’t shake hands with those who want to foil the conference… and he continued saying that Dr. Essmat Saif ed-Dawla and that one – me – have deliberately distributed a paper titled “this is an invitation for recognizing the impossible” written by Dr. Essmat with me writing the introduction… that paper was printed in Dar El-Khalij print house where I work in the UAE… I also carried 500 copies with me to Algeria…

What I want to say here is that there are Egyptian generations that are connected to the Palestinian cause; fighting and resistance, since 1948 to date, in an inseparable relation… such relation that cannot be broken by any one or any circumstances… but what happened so that a man recognizing Palestine as his life cause, says and admits that he is no longer that enthusiastic about it?

The answer is complex and starts from the end… from our present time now and going few years back… meaning our current situation that imposes a terrifying question; that is: in terms of Egyptian national security, can we deny that the Zionist state represents a real danger on Egypt… and that those groups claiming to have Islam as a reference, holding arms and controlling borders with Egypt and which adopt an ideology stating that liberating Egypt by Islamizing it is a priority over liberating Jerusalem and Palestine… are also, like we all witnessed, a danger on Egypt?

Another question: shall we choose between two dangers… the first was stopped – even if temporarily – by flawed Camp David Accords… while the second was not stopped until now?

My answer for the first question is: yes… the Zionist state and all those islamist groups represent real danger on the Egyptian security… as to the second question, my answer is: we shall not choose… as the Zionists do not only target Palestine, but Egypt as well… they don’t want our country to develop or progress in any way…

I also have no doubt that Zionists were behind enabling those islamist groups to come to power in the states surrounding; meaning Egypt and Syria… and behind islamists’ strong rise in Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon… not to mention Libya and Tunisia… because Zionists know well that with those retarding powers occupying decision making offices, the Arab renaissance and national liberation movement fighting colonialism are hit in the core.

There have been a lot of waters running in the river of events… and if we opened the door for a serious critical reading, we would find that all parties are guilty of disconnecting the relation tying Egypt and Palestine… since it has been difficult to reproduce the strategic and geo-political fact once again in the same manner… even if nothing has changed… and I here mean the fact that Palestine is the essence of Egyptian national security… and so it’s an Egyptian issue in the first place… gone are those days when the Palestinians held a pavilion to receive condolences when Sa’ad Pasha Zaghloul died in 1927… and when they cried and grieved over Nasser just like the Egyptians did and may be more…

Yes, Palestine is Arab… and yes, Zionists are settlement colonizing occupiers and we have to fight them sooner or later… and yes, Hamas and all their likes represent, in a way or another, a danger of different kind on Egypt…

Now, we come to the question: how can we tackle those dangers in a way that doesn’t harm the Egyptian and Arab-national security in the heart… also, in a way that doesn’t make those islamists’ practices a pretext for all those who want to stab the Palestinian cause in the heart thinking they may have a piece of a new middle-eastern cake of interests distributed by a direct Zionist-American alliance?

How can we regain our national and Arab-national liberating speech directed against the international imperialist and racist settlement colonization?... how can we formulate it once again to revive the masses’ memory?

العدوان على غزة.. أسئلة حائرة

عود على بدء قديم.. فقد كنت ممن نذروا جهدهم للقضية الفلسطينية لسببين، أولهما أن فلسطين وسائر بلاد الشام، كجغرافيا طبيعية وسياسية، تقع فى صميم حزام الأمن الوطنى المصرى الذى حدده أسلافنا المصريون القدامي، بأنه يمتد شمالا إلى منابع المياه المعكوسة «دجلة والفرات» وجنوبا إلى قرن الأرض، أى القرن الإفريقي، وثانيهما أن الكيان الصهيونى أو الدولة العبرية ـ يمثل ويجسد أعتى صور الاستعمار الاستيطانى العنصرى، ولابد من مقاومته وتصفيته طال الزمن أم قصر.

ولأننى كنت وبقيت للآن كذلك، فإن علاقتى وأظن عديدين مثلى بالقضية الفلسطينية تراوحت بين السعى للفعل المقاتل وبين الانخراط الذى لم يتوقف ـ وإن أصابه الفتور أحيانا ـ فى الفعل المقاوم.. إذ الفرق بين الفعلين واضح وهو اختلاف فى الدرجة، وإن كنت أعتقد أن الفعل المقاوم أكثر اتساعا وشمولا من المقاتل الذى قد يقتصر على حمل السلاح أو إطلاقه.

وقبل أن أستطرد أود أن ألمح إلى إجابة سؤال افتراضى أحسبه يراود البعض، وهو أليس فى القضية الفلسطينية بعد ثالث وهو البعد الدينى، لأن أرض فلسطين فيها أولى القبلتين وثانى الحرمين ومنها كان المعراج، وفيها مهد المسيح ومواطئ أقدامه وكنيسة القيامة، وأقول أن فيها أيضا مثوى النبى إبراهيم وبقية سلالته من إسحق؟! وأجيب أننى أعتقد أن البعد الدينى على هذا النحو هو الذى يجعل لكل طرف من أطراف الصراع حجته الدينية، أما البعدان الوطنى والتحررى فلا مجال للصهاينة أن يزعموا فيهما شيئا، والتفاصيل فى ذلك كثيرة ليس هذا مجالها. ثم إننى عدا تأديتى الخدمة العسكرية الإجبارية فى وطنى مصر خلال الفترة من 1973 إلى 1976، فقد سارعت إلى السعى لمواجهة الصهاينة قتاليا أثناء غزوهم لبنان 1982 وكنت من وراء تجهيز الطائرة التى حملت المتطوعين للقتال من الشارقة بالإمارات العربية إلى دمشق، وكنت على متن الطائرة وتقدمت إلى المسئولين السوريين فى معسكر «عدرا»، الذين كانوا مسئولين عن استقبال وتوجيه المتطوعين إلى جبهة القتال، وفى ذلك قصة مأساوية كبيرة كتبت بعض فصولها فى مرات سابقة.

ولقد بدأ جيلى وعيه بقضية فلسطين مع تفتح وعيه بقضية التحرر من الاستعمار وبمواقف ثورة يوليو وعبدالناصر، وكبرنا حتى صار معظم خطابنا السياسى والثورى فى الحركة الطلابية والشبابية المصرية منذ مطلع السبعينيات، يقوم على عمود فقرى هو قضية فلسطين وتحرير التراب المحتل.

ولقد شاء حظى أن التقى قادة منظمة التحرير، وعلى رأسهم ياسر عرفات وخليل الوزير وصلاح خلف وهايل عبد الحميد وفاروق قدومي، العديد من المرات وخاصة فى بيروت، ولم يخل الأمر من مناوشات جادة كنت ـ بالطبع ـ البادئ فيها، ومنها ذلك الموقف الذى جرى فى العاصمة الجزائرية عندما استقبل ياسر عرفات الضيوف المصريين الذين يشاركون فى الدورة الـ 17 للمجلس الوطنى الفلسطيني، وكان الوفد المصرى حاشدا بما يزيد على مائة شخصية، ووقفت فى الطابور حيث سيمر أبو عمار للسلام، وكان مكانى بين السيدين أمين هويدى ومحمد فائق وسلم عرفات على الأول ثم تجاهلنى ليسلم على الثانى، فإذا بالسيد أمين هويدى، رحمة الله عليه، يستوقفه فورا ويسأله إذا لم يكن قد رآنى.. ورد عرفات بعصبية: أنا لا أسلم على من يريد تخريب المؤتمر، واستطرد بأن الدكتور عصمت سيف الدولة وفلان ـ الذى هو أنا ـ تعمدنا توزيع كراسة عنوانها «هذه الدعوة للاعتراف المستحيل» كتبها الدكتور عصمت وكتبت المقدمة، وطبعت الكراسة فى مطابع دار الخليج التى أعمل بها بالإمارات، وحملت معى خمسمائة نسخة إلى الجزائر!

غاية ما أود الإشارة إليه هو أن علاقة أجيال مصرية بقضية فلسطين قتالا ومقاومة منذ ما قبل 1948 وإلى الآن، هى علاقة عضوية لا يمكن ولن يمكن لأحد أو لظروف أن تفصمها! ولكن ما الذى جرى حتى يفصح شخص يعتبر قضية فلسطين نذر حياته، فيقول ويعترف بأن فتورا اعتراه تجاهها؟!

الإجابة مركبة وتبدأ من الآخر.. أى من النقطة التى نعيشها الآن ومنذ عدة أعوام، أى الوضع الراهن للسياق والذى فرض سؤالا مخيفا بل ومرعبا هو: فى مجال الأمن الوطنى المصرى هل يمكن إنكار أن الكيان الصهيونى يمثل خطرا قويا على مصر، وأن الجماعات التى تزعم اتخاذ الإسلام مرجعية لها وتحمل السلاح وتسيطر على الحدود المباشرة مع مصر ومعروف رؤيتها التى قد تصل إلى أن تحرير القاهرة بأسلمتها مقدم على تحرير القدس وفلسطين تمثل هى الأخري، وكما عشنا وعايشنا وعانينا، خطرا على مصر؟!

ثم هل تجوز المفاضلة بين خطرين أحدهما تمت فرملته ولو مؤقتا باتفاقيات كامب ديفيد المعيبة، وثانيهما لم يمكن فرملته حتى الآن؟

الإجابة عندى هى للسؤال الأول نعم إن الكيان الصهيونى وتلك الجماعات المتأسلمة تمثل خطرا على الأمن المصرى، أما السؤال الثانى فهو عندى أنه لا تجوز المفاضلة، لأن الكيان الصهيونى لا يستهدف فلسطين فقط وإنما مصر أيضا، ولا يريد لها أن تنهض بحال من الأحوال، ولا أكاد أشك لحظة واحدة فى أن الترتيب لمجيء التيارات المتأسلمة للحكم فى دول الطوق «مصر ـ سوريا» وانتعاشها بقوة فى الأردن والعراق ولبنان، ناهيك عن ليبيا وتونس كان بمباركة صهيونية، لأن الصهاينة يعلمون أن مقتل النهوض العربى والتحرر الوطنى ومواجهة الاستعمار، هو فى وصول تلك القوى إلى موقع اتخاذ القرار.

لقد جرت فى نهر الأحداث مياه وصخور وشوائب بغير حصر، وإذا فتحنا الباب لقراءة نقدية صارمة لوجدنا أن جميع الأطراف تحمل وزر تقطيع أوصال رحم العلاقة بين مصر وبين فلسطين، وأصبح معضلا أن نعيد إنتاج الحقيقة الجيوسياسية واستراتيجية مرة أخرى بالأسلوب نفسه، وإن كانت المعطيات لم تتغير.. وأعنى بها حقيقة أن قضية فلسطين هى جوهر الأمن الوطنى المصرى، وبذا فهى قضية مصرية بالأساس.. ورحم الله أياما أقام فيها الفلسطينيون سرادقا لتقبل العزاء فى وفاة سعد باشا زغلول عام 1927، ورحم الله أياما بكى فيها الفلسطينيون وذرفوا الدمع والدم على جمال عبد الناصر مثل المصريين، وربما أكثر من بعض المصريين!

نعم.. فلسطين عربية.. ونعم الصهاينة محتلون استعماريون استيطانيون ولابد من مواجهتهم آجلا أو عاجلا.. ونعم .. كذلك لأن حماس ومن على شاكلتها تمثل خطرا بدرجة أو أخرى ومن نوع مختلف على مصر، ومن ثم كيف نستطيع إدارة التعامل مع تلك الأخطار تعاملا لا يضرب الأمن الوطنى المصرى والقومى العربى فى صميمه، ولا يسمح لأن تكون ممارسات المتأسلمين بوابة ينفذ منها كل ما ومن يريد ذبح القضية الفلسطينية، تقربا لنصيب فى شرق أوسط جديد توزع فيه كعكة المصالح بإشراف صهيو ـ أمريكى مباشر؟ وكيف نستعيد خطابنا الوطنى والقومى التحررى المواجه للاستعمار الاستيطانى العنصرى والإمبريالى العالمي، ونصوغه مجددا وننعش به ذاكرة الجماهير؟!

Stop… for God sake

I intended to write about the issue of “religious discourse”… as I believe Islam does not recognize theocracy or mediators between man and God… also it does not recognize what is called clergy… I also believe that Islam does not have a religious discourse, rather it is known by “Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction”… way of God here is all that entail the nation’s interests.

However, I preferred to postpone writing about such issue to talk about the security issue that has become a nightmare the whole nation suffers from day and night… after what happened near to the presidential palace and after the everyday martyrs of our best sons of police men holding high ranks… also our soldiers… I believe we cannot just stay silent feeling pain and sorry without screaming out loud: stop… on all levels.

Stop remissness… as I and others followed what was posted on the account of the terrorist group called “Agnad Allah” in which they talked in almost accurate details about the bombs they planted and warned civilians against… some journalists and media men even filed notifications to the concerned entities regarding what was posted… but this alarm was not taken seriously until the terrorist act took place and it turned up to be a true warning… stop such remissness and underestimating the value of the information even if it was 99.9 percent likely to be false.

In such regard, I would like to narrate a situation I had recently as I was in Cairo Airport last Tuesday evening. I tried to enter Hall one in the old airport to pick up my daughter coming from the UAE but I was not allowed to enter by all means. I respected the security personnel who insisted on doing his job and I sat on the pavement with the rest of people… then someone came thinking he was doing me a favor by letting me in through the door next to the one I was denied access through… I told him that it is not allowed but then I received the traditional Egyptian reply we all know: “not for you, Pasha… come”. Of course, I refused to go… and knew that that door is for letting in the bags-carrying trolleys after collecting them from in front the hall… I saw some who went in and sat in the air-conditioned hall although access was not permitted for strict security reasons and only a major general in the army or police was authorized to come in as per what the security personnel said.

Stop remissness that we can see its scuttled results in all the security campaigns that started like a fire breaking out in dry grass; once it starts, it fades down… such campaigns that aimed at enforcing discipline at downtown Cairo, neighborhoods and other cities against hawkers who are no longer ones… actually, they now have fixed places to sit in with each one knowing his area and limits.

In such regard, I remember when I was offering condolences at late Mr. Mahmoud as-Sa’adani years ago… I was sitting next to major general Ismail ash-Sha’er and asked him to interfere in the chaos in Tala’at Harb street in downtown Cairo… and indeed he responded and later described the matter to me… as he said that there were groups of big master merchants who rent big apartments at downtown Cairo where they keep their merchandise… then hawkers and thugs come and take this merchandise everyone to his pre-known stretch for which they pay rents in thousands; meaning it is not about some hawkers shouting, yelling, having fights with people and harassing women alone… actually, they were networks of big masters who have their influence, especially in facilities police department and other entities in charge of such thing.

Stop dealing softly with everyone who has a human rights “shop” or others eloquent enough to deliver a contemporary liberal democratic speech firm in form and deep in essence… those whom we witnessed one day as loyal Marxists faithful to their ideology and other staunch Nasserists utterly devoted to advocating rights of working classes… then later we saw them going to the occupied lands in Palestine and participating in conferences along with figures from the Israeli Labor party…

Stop being soft with those who have never been seen working hard in any job… those who have never been to the fields, deserts or far stretches in Upper Egypt or the countryside to help stand up for the people’s rights there… those we have never heard from them, or from those who wrote their agendas and funded them, a true sigh over our martyr sons of workers, peasants, professionals and other army and police men who died by bombs, mines or RPG missiles.

Stop patting over those who burnt green trees in the courtyard of their university… those who burnt buildings, libraries, laboratories and lecture halls… those who took off lighting poles and blackened the walls with their obscene words… those who sought to spoil the scholar year and deprive their colleagues from studying and succeeding… those who took the university dormitories as an escape where they live, eat, drink and sleep almost for free.

Stop letting go of the country and nation’s rights by keeping all habits inhibiting development, progress and building and leaving negligent, lazy and corrupt people without punishment… those who hinder any attempt of reform in the state institutions and facilities and who scuttle any endeavors aiming at turning the dream of building, progress, self-sufficiency, innovation and research into a daily reality where all people compete and other benevolent people contribute to with money, efforts and time.

It was said, and this is true, that God punishes with power what cannot be punished with Quran… meaning that the power of the state, the force of the law and discipline of security, investigation and judiciary entities are strong enough to do what Dawaa and guidance discourse of religion failed in.

I have already written about the fields that competitors, partners and rivals in politics shall dedicate part of their interest, activity and efforts to… because those who became professional in the public work, conferences, seminars and parties and who became addicted to seeking positions in ministries, parliaments and other places, are regarded as hypocrites if they do not do something for the country.

We have to see them standing in the front lines with their followers, allies and all who support them in places of real national work… they can choose whatever field they want; fighting the attack of the sea over Delta, desertification, scarcity of water and resources, sewage discharge or piling of garbage… all these fields are suitable for taking pictures and making propaganda through them in order to prove that they do care about the country.

But if they kept behaving like a bunch of current-time Pashas – for there were some of the old-time ones who put themselves, fortunes and families at the service of the country and examples in such regard are unlimited to count – who do nothing but watching and giving empty speeches, then it is no use of them… and we shall not regret when our destiny goes for the worse for we have not done anything to stop this.

Stop for God sake that security remissness because what happened at the presidential palace is a failure for all of us and not only the ministry of interior and other security entities.
