Salute to an honorable patriotic scientist

I received the following message from the eminent professor Dr. Gamal Mustafa Saied; professor of surgery and surgical oncology in Qasr al-Aini medical school… also member of the European Association for Cancer Researches (EACR) and American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)… adding to all this what I know well about him as he is the one with the researches and leading surgical operations registered worldwide in his name… also he is the founder of the cultural intellectual saloon called “Al-Garrah saloon” or the surgeon’s saloon that is held periodically and which discusses the most important scientific and social matters that burden our country without much talking in politics… also, he is the philanthropic who denies himself and puts his knowledge, efforts, time and money for the help of people, especially the poor.

Here is what he wrote:

Dear Sir,
I was very much delighted of what you recently wrote about regarding the willingness to help the families of terrorism martyrs and injured ones in cooperation with the institution of Al Ahram. As I am indebted to this great country that provided me with free education since I went to the primary school until I got the doctorate degree, not to mention the awards, rewards, grants and travel allowances it gave me to go all over the world… this country also granted me the honor of representing Egypt in the international conferences and forums. For all this, I consider myself a pure Egyptian product and this shall entitle me the duty of repaying a simple part of what this country gave me… and so I am delighted to present the following:

1-I would like to join the group interested in such matter of helping the martyrs’ families.

2-I am ready to provide totally free-of-charge examination over patients of the families of martyrs and injured ones in fields of major surgeries, benign and malignant tumors’ surgeries, recurrent surgeries and synthetic surgeries that need special skillful expertise… all this in my private clinic in al-Falaki square in Bab al-Louk neighborhood in Cairo… after this patient receives a letter from you or whoever you assign for that task.

3-I volunteer to do the surgical operations in the above-mentioned fields free of charge provided that other entities take charge of the costs of hospital accommodation, medications and anesthesia… also costs of chemo- and radiotherapies if necessary… we may also be able to help the patients in the procedures to get the approval of the officials in charge to get all this done on the expense of the state that does all its best to help the citizens.

4-I am prepared to incorporate other physicians of specializations and expertise of different medical fields for such noble cause if I have your consent over this.

Best regards,

Your brother
Dr. Gamal Mustafa Saied
Professor of surgery and surgical oncology in Qasr al-Aini medical school
Member of the European Association for Cancer Researches (EACR)
Member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)

Again, I thank and feel grateful for Professor Dr. Gamal Mustafa and for all gentlemen who honored me with responding to the invitation I launched for the purpose of helping the families of the martyrs and which is adopted by the newspaper of Al Ahram… here, I would like to ask Al Ahram through the two gentlemen Mr. Ahmed al-Naggar; chairman of the board and Mr. Muhammed Abdel-Hadi; editor-in-chief to make Al Ahram the entity entitled to regulate the relation between the families of muslim brotherhood terrorism martyrs and this respected medical team by granting the one who wants to be examined or get medications a letter from Al Ahram directed to Professor Dr. Gamal Mustafa affirming that its holder is entitled to receive the care agreed upon… we can also hold a meeting including Al Ahram, professor Dr. Gamal Mustafa and me to coordinate the mechanisms required for such noble mission.

I expected significant contributions and I received some favorable responses but there were some issues that may rise to the level of obstacles impeded us from achieving a certain goal I call for during the month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fetr or feast of breaking the fast as many of the martyrs’ children and families are in bad need of support during the feasts.

Some of the entities including an authority affiliate to the Egyptian cabinet and which was established with the aim of supporting the martyrs’ families asked to coordinate with the project that now holds the name of Al Ahram… it is okay with me that the idea I called for out of deep patriotic feelings finds its way to practical application under any sign… not to mention that the sign is that of Al Ahram with its old history, patriotism and integrity of its administration and editing management.

What really encourages us to go on this sacred mission no matter the obstacles are is what was said in the president speech who strongly and honestly mentioned the importance of honoring and supporting the families of country martyrs murdered on the hands of coward mean terrorism… especially martyrs of soldiers, army and police officers… also martyrs of civilians and common people like the martyr driver of the car of the martyred judges and prosecutors… who the scene of his three little girls still rips the heart of anyone who knows humanity and worships God.

And so I rebuke myself and blame those in charge of Al Ahram mail that received some financial contributions and I will not say donations asking: couldn’t we give this simple present to the three girls in Eid al-Fitr?... again, I shall salute and honor everyone having a live human patriotic conscience like the model of the honorable surgery professor Dr. Gamal Saied.

Not McCarthyism

Peace is an established lie
Justice is the philosophy of losers
There is no justice unless all powers are equal
Terrorism has no deterrent but force

Those were the words of the poet Aboul-Qasem esh-Shabbi… they jump to my mind whenever I see Jewish Zionists abusing the Palestinians… and whenever muslim Zionists of muslim brotherhood and their likes keep destroying our country, assassinating its identity and killing its sons..

Both sides are Zionists… because both are racist… both claim to have religious reference… both depend on violence and terrorism as a discipline and means to exist… and both aim at destroying our Arab nation and undermine all that is loving, just and peaceful.

One has no longer nerves to bear or accept any means to deal with those Zionist muslim brotherhood and all their likes but with severe punishment on all levels; economic, social and cultural… and that’s why – before the assassination of the honored judge counselor Hesham Barakat – I have been into fierce debates with those who came up with the idea of postponing executing court verdicts against terrorists… I also stood against those who believe that dialogue and accepting the other include living with racist Zionist muslim brotherhood and their likes… atop of them, those who undermine citizenship in Egypt and describe the Egyptian Christian citizens of being atheists who will dwell in hell!

It’s normal that one may think, in the most intense moments of anger, of widening confrontation domain by forming public groups of resistance that can have licensed arms to protect electricity towers, stations, bridges, railways and state institutions… also headquarters of ruling regime and top officials… it’s what all societies do in war.

In this regard, I remember a funny story that reveals to what extent the feeling of resistance and protecting the nation can help stand against anything that may threaten its safety… it’s a true story that took place after the defeat of 1967 when my friend, the elite media man Mr. Abdel-Wahhab Qattaya received an assignment from Sawt El-Arab radio station to follow and record the positive reactions of the public after the defeat.

And so he went to al-Hussain square with the recording device… those devices were not common among people at that time… and once he started talking to ask people about their opinions, the public saw the strange device they never saw before… and someone shouted: “a spy”… then all who were in the square gathered around the man and started attacking him while he was yelling and shouting declaring his identity as a radio announcer and his assignment to record their opinions… but it was in vain… until he shouted: “here is my ID card…my name is Abdel-Wahhab Qattaya… have you ever heard of a Jewish man called Qattaya?”

What I want to say here is that the more we are aware of the danger surrounding us, the more likely the ordinary citizen can become a brick in a line of those who build bulwarks… such security, cultural and civilization bulwarks that stand against those who want to erase our identity.

Now, they will say… “this is hate and incitation speech… it’s a call for an Egyptian McCarthyism like that of America”… to the end of that already-known speech… and I say… Yes… I hate violence… I hate killing… I hate destruction and erasing our country’s cultural and civilized identity… and… Yes, I incite and stand against all who practice violence and killing and target our national unity to destroy.

That’s what all normal people did in the societies that sought progress and development… that happened in the western democracies against Nazism, Fascism and racial discrimination… it happened in all divine religions as well and was mentioned in the core of its doctrines… like I once said in a previous article when prophet Jesus talked about the wicked snake-like priests who claim to have guardianship over religion… and when Quran mentioned the hypocrites, double-faced and their likes who make fun of God’s verses; killing, violence and destruction in the name of Islam is nothing but making fun of God’s verses in the worst way.

Here I want to confirm that total confrontation with terrorism shall include exerting real practical efforts to take care of the martyrs’ families; meaning the bereaved mothers, widowed wives and orphaned children… not only financially – which is an important side – but also psychologically and morally… since tens of those orphaned children; sons of the martyrs, are at ages that cannot help them deal with that shock… the shock of losing the father and the horrendous act behind this loss… and the effect of that on the mother and the rest of the family… all that requires all institutions working in the psychological and social care to take part in this… they should start by paying home visits to those mothers, grandmothers, grandfathers, the rest of the family and children themselves to provide them with all that can guarantee qualifying, building and strengthening their personalities to continue their lives in a healthy way.

In this regard, I’d like to thank all who communicated with the initiative which I launched here in this space before and those who submitted their financial support… I also thank my friend Mr. Muhammed Abdel-Hadi Allam, the editing chief, and my colleague Mr. Ahmed el-Berri, the editing director and responsible of Al Ahram newspaper’s mail who adopted the initiative and opened an account to receive the contributions.

However, all this is not enough as I said before… and so I call to develop this initiative in two directions… the first is the psychological care which my friend Mr. Muhammed Abdel-A’al Eissa brought my attention to in his comment on Facebook… and the second is providing all the medical care needed… in this regard, I have already started contacting a bunch of the best and most efficient professors in surgery, cardiology, gynecology and pediatrics to treat those terrorism victims in their clinics and hospitals for free… also, Al Ahram newspaper’s mail can provide the family of the martyr with a letter declaring their state to the destined doctor.

Our resistance action bulwark shall have many lines to grow higher and higher and stand solid in the face of those who threatens our civilization, culture, society and security… and so the citizen has to be aware of the danger, its sources and parties to guarantee his participation in the security side…

Like what happened after 1967… we all remember how criminal acts almost disappeared in certain times… those times were when people felt they are part of this nation… they are all in one… and they are all in danger.

Let’s continue fighting ugliness

I thank Al Ahram for its campaign against ugliness that muslim brotherhood spread on walls and smeared with black, that looks like their black consciences, seats in parks and waiting places of public transport buses… they wrote words the least to describe with is that they represent disobedience to God who said “And We have certainly honored the children of Adam” while they humiliate the human and attack his honor… atop of this is the national honor that is not less sacred than the family honor if not way exceeding it.

I wished if Al Ahram can continue its campaign, not only to remove ugliness and muslim brotherhood pollution, but also to exceed this to face all aspects of urban ugliness in our beloved Egypt… specially in the historic neighborhoods of its big and medium cities… there are even some villages – they are in hundreds – that include architectural historic sights.

In my opinion, such campaigns concerned with common sense, conscience and man’s relation to the environment surrounding him have become mandatory after the culture of ugliness – if we can say – has spread in every field… and in such regard, those who possess wealth and education have passed all limits more than common people who barely sustain themselves… moreover, one sees those poor people inhabiting graveyards and lanes – trying to improve their environment by planting a Convolvulus tree or castorbean, or filling clay pots with cactus and brushing the land and springing it with water before they lay their mat down to sit on.

As to those supposedly wealthy and educated, one finds some of them inhabiting luxurious houses containing million-worth expensive furniture while the door entrance and stairs before their houses are filthy dirty and they often abstain from paying their share in maintenance and cleaning dues.

Fighting ugliness does not necessitate raising the economic standard of living for people as many – as I just said – are rich in money but poor in sense… such fighting starts from the family then education stages… also media – specially the visual one – has an important role to play in such regard.

We will not be able to overcome this tough era of Mubarak and musilm brotherhood unless we have a vision for comprehensive renaissance where sense and conscience are the most important factors… then once the system of aesthetic values is established, it will be easier to deliver such system to the eyes, ears and minds on the individual level and to all sectors of the society on the national level… we were astonished and had enough of what muslim brotherhood did and still do of ugly pollution as I mentioned… however, I believe there is something more serious than those black writings… black in both look and meaning.

I here mean what muslim brotherhood students did in the Egyptian universities as they not only wrote their obscene words but also exceeded this into a series of actions that reveal how ugliness is deep rooted in their very social, psychological and mental composition… for they first brutally assaulted their colleagues and professors… it even happened that some female students wearing Hijab and Niqab gathered in front of the home residence of their dean and cursed her and her family with the worst and most obscene words… then they exceeded this into burning green trees and damaging lighting poles… they even went on smashing cars of people inhabiting the nearby streets and wrote their obscene words on buildings’ entrances.

This is the real ugliness… you can imagine how a human – any human – can do such thing as setting fire in a beautiful green tree… adding to this that this so-called human claims that he represents religion… we do have a highly important social, conscience, cultural and civilization mission that requires people of knowledge and experience to sit to plan how to eradicate such ugliness, in culture, style and behavior… also how to replace such ugliness with aesthetic sense.

We lived with innate artists in our old villages… we used to see them drawing primitive shapes over the entrances of homes after builders had finished their work that contained simple beautiful shapes by laying the bricks in courses in certain forms… we also lived with those who weaved palm trees’ foliage into making beautiful baskets of many kinds and shapes… we also lived with those whose job was to shave for animals… those barbers had their own taste in shaving the camels’ tail and back; meaning the area extending from the end of the back hump until above the two thighs… one can see them drawing triangles, circles, stars and other shapes on the camels’ skin using their artistic shaving… the same applied to donkeys and other draft domesticated animals… in our villages, trees were almost sacred; whether the one standing in front of the house or the other one erecting on top of the field.

We had conciliation with our environment… anyone of us – those who lived their childhood and adolescence in such atmosphere – still yearns to see a willow tree dropping its leaves over the water stream and to taste a sycamore fig that was ripened by getting cut as its scent and taste were too beautiful to describe…

I believe it is not bad to go a little bit astray and say that in our villages, we used to notice this thing of covering unripe fruits, after they reap them and put them in flat baskets made of dry branches of pomegranate, with cudweeds’ branches that grow naturally at the banks of water canals… fruits tended to perfectly ripen in shape and taste… later we knew that there is an aromatic oil that emanates from cudweeds on those fruits and that turns sugar inside them from Fructose into Glucose or the opposite… I do not remember.

Ugliness had no way to our composition until those creatures that forbid singing, drawing, photographing and sculpture existed and spread… those creatures that find guilt in expressing the feelings no matter the form such expression takes… those ugly creatures with their out-of-gluttony obese bodies and shaggy beards

Being ugly is inseparable of other horrible characters… as the one who sneaks out in the dead of night to smear all surfaces with black writing obscene words is the same thief attacking people’s properties and honor or he would not have waited until it is dark to do such awful deed… also the abnormal one who burns the green tree is the same person who finds no shame in assaulting his professors… etc.

Al Ahram campaign against ugliness has to continue… moreover, it has to extend and act on broader and deeper levels hoping we can bring back the noble beautiful face of our beloved Egypt.
