They ask…

I write these lines on Monday evening after I heard about St. Peter church explosion. I sit sad, grieved and helpless… while listening to those asking about who lie behind this brutal cold-blooded bunch of terrorists?

Lies behind them the human specimen that became addicted to the evil deeds that made them in the first place… that specimen that looted the country as they ate all that was over the table in the era of Sadat and the thief that succeeded him… it is the same bunch that welcomed muslim brotherhood in power and again it is the same group that is occupying most of the public scene now… I would not have hesitated to mention their names in clear words except that Al Ahram newspaper would not allow this.

Lies behind them duplicity in educational system; the one entitled to establish the community conscience and form the socio-cultural discourse… a duplicity depicted in rote learning studying Mutoon[1], Hawashi[2], and Hawashi written over Hawashi[3]; a deliberate intent to complicate what God had already facilitated, until a group of so-called-priests, assigning themselves guardians over the relation between Muslims and God, came to exist. This group keeps maneuvering to evade actual modernization of religious discourse by responding in the false appearance to the call for modernization, but actually inhibiting all invitations for reform and applying criticism and scientific disciplines over our life. This group opposes the absolute decisive separation between religious institutions and ruling affairs.

Lies behind them sticking to false appearances in most, if not all, life aspects as if everyone agree on the “music costumes” principle. Regarding this “music costumes” thing, some families in the past that were once well-off but unfortunately became poor used to resort to this way of showing off. They used to hire some unemployed men dressed in rented fancy formal clothes to head the funeral procession of the family deceased, accompanied by some musicians playing sad funeral melodies. Their only condition was that those rented unemployed should have had well physical built. Unfortunately, our worship places have not escaped this disease of false appearances as we can witness this in marble floors, carpets, moquette, decorations, towering minarets and loud speakers echoing ugly voices supposed to call for prayers, not to mention the air-conditioners, occasions’ halls and those experts in draining all the money you have in your pockets. And so, “Islam became strange as it started strange”, except with one difference; Islam started strange when the early believers had to deny their faith in public and keep it in their heart. Nowadays, Islam’s current state of being strange can be seen in pretending to be Muslim in appearance while no believing or faith lies in your heart.

The same applies to education that is supposed – as we said before – to promote mind, science and research. However, it turned to be promoting quantity over quality, as we can witness an empty scientific life that enjoys the most fascinating outer appearance without including the slightest meaning or context within it.

Lies behind that evil specimen of humans the official acceptance of their actual interaction in parliament, parties, journalism, media and mosques. The acceptance of having those who feel no shame to say what they say; as they say Christians are atheists and they shall go to hell, and if it happened and a Muslim got married to a Christian woman, he shall make her feel all the time that he hates her and not even say hi to her. He should only enjoy her sexually like a man does with a prostitute. This is not a bla bla talking; I heard and saw the one, called Yaser Burhami, who said it myself. At that day, I wrote in this very space in Al Ahram wondering about the secret why the authorities stand still before those savage salafists.

Lies behind them a non-efficient slow tangled complicated legal system, along with other pre-judiciary investigative and intelligence agencies. Those agencies may have limited authority, ruled by certain balance of powers or even infiltrated. As so, when the disputed legal cases reach the judiciary; public prosecution and courts, they are incomplete in a way that does not help the judge to have solid strong support to issue his verdicts.

Lies behind them a journalism in charge of it some people whom we knew and made sure are incompetent on all levels; professionally, culturally, politically, religiously and ethically as well… also, a media, whether official state TV or privately-owned satellite channels, inflicted with the same disease. They are even worse as they are more thick-skinned, ignorant and ill-behaved in a way allowing them to do whatever they want.

Lies behind them an ordeal of a nation that, according to geography, history, civilization and culture, is well known. However, some of its sons, especially of its recent rulers, failed to have due responsibility toward it and so, they went stealing, looting and selling their country in the regional and international markets. They spread corruption in its corners allowing all enemies in the region and the whole world to mess with its security, safety and dignity.

Finally, but not last, an incapable political, social and financial elite bunch lies behind them; this bunch that was short of thinking for a single moment of a clear way for this nation to come out of its current problems.
